Nasi Kukus D'Garden @ Kampung Air, Kota Kinabalu

SERVE NO PORK | LOCAL FOOD | KAMPUNG AIR

Nasi Kukus, means steamed rice in bahasa.

Nasi Kukus is originally from Kelantan and became trendy in Klang Valley area 6-7 years ago. To me, it seems like a fixed version of nasi berlauk or nasi campur. HAHA!

Rice is soaked in water, rinsed, and is placed in a small aluminum bowl (portion enough for one person), and steamed for 20 minutes. The steamed rice should be fluffy and chewy, then drizzled with spoonful of curry, some pineapple chutney, and a piece of spiced fried chicken (ayam goreng berempah).

Nasi Kukus D'Garden is located at Chong Thien Vun Park, just next to KK High Court. The spiced fried chicken is cooked on the spot so you are guaranteed with crispy skin fried chicken, yum! Downside is the oily fume from the open air kitchen might stick on the cloths when you dine here!

For me, the factors which make a good Nasi Kukus is:
Rice > Fried Chicken > Curry > Pineapple Chutney

Do you agree with me? 😁

Nasi Kukus with Fried Chicken and add-on Telur Bawang

They are serving Nasi Lemak Kukus too! The sambal is a bit too salty to my liking, but nevertheless the nasi lemak is still yummy with the same Ayam Goreng Berempah and lots of ikan bilis

Coffee Stops in Melbourne: #7 Dukes Coffee Roasters

CAFE || FLINDERS LANE

Dukes Coffee was the last stop of our coffee hop in Melbourne.

Finally we make it to the cafe in Melbourne after tasting their coffee in +INCH Coffee , Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Dukes is one of the established coffee roasters in Melbourne well represent the city's coffee culture. Thanks to the conveniences of the online store, local cafe like INCH and home brewer like me are able to sample Melbourne coffee at our home country. Well, nothing beat the experience of visiting the actual cafe which you are already "familiar" with, unfortunately during our visit we are in rush and the cafe was too busy. We only managed to sample a cappuccino and Honduras Olvin Fernandez on batch brew.

ESPRESSO MACHINE: La Marzocco Linea x 2
GRINDERS: EK43 & Mythos One

All cafe we went in Melbourne were very very crowded, and among all, Dukes and the League of Honest Coffee probably had the highest number of people in-queue (Higher Ground was very crowded too but the people there were waiting for the table)! The city's landmark -- Flinders Street Station is within walking distance to the cafe.

Coffee Stops in Melbourne: #6 Slater Street Bench

CAFE || ST. KILDA ROAD

Feel free to sit at any part of this cafe, the coffee bar is designed to diminish the barrier between the barista and customer. Meaning: you might have occupy the working space of the barista.

Or vise versa.

If you are sitting on the wooden bench like us, the barista would serve your coffee on the bench, like this:

Sit outdoor if you want

ESPRESSO MACHINE: La Marzocco Linea
GRINDERS: Mahlkonig EK43, Mazzer Robur

Slater Street Bench is a small coffee bar serving specialty coffee at St. Kilda Road, the Albert Park Lake (remember the racing track of Formula 1 Grand Prix?) is just a stone's throw away! We took a tram from Melbourne's iconic Fed Square and head south to Slater Street (Stop 23) in just merely a 10 minutes tram ride. The cafe is right in front of the tram line.

The cafe looks very clean and simple, almost everything in here is wooden, black or white. Menu are simple too. They make filter coffee using V60 (Australian's representative to the 2016 Dublin World Brewers Cup Competition, Devin Loong works here as head barista), milk coffee, as well as others non-coffee baverages.
