Not doing any research beforehand and I ended up at this Indian Restaurant located at first floor of the shophouses, along Syed Alwi Road of Little India. What attracted me to go in was the little quotes on the signboard which read: Every Visit is a Picnic.
That is, the meaning of "vanabhojanam" actually means picnic, and it is no ordinary picnic: Vana Bhojanam is practiced in South India during the Karthika Masam, or Karthika Season which fall on October - November. During the ceremony, people sit / pray / medidate under the sacret Amla tree (gooseberry). Women would cook under the tree and everyone eat their food under the tree too! Just like a picnic!
Because I did not do any research beforehand, so I let the waiter decide for me what to eat by giving a guideline: first I will order an Andhra dish (that is their specialty) - Andhra is a province / place in South India, and second, I want mutton. So it was decided one dish - Andhra Chilli Chicken (SGD8.50) and Mutton Dum Briyani (SGD11). Chilled Mango Juice was served as welcome drink, free-of-charge.
