Lava Stone Grills @ Favola, Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Favola is the latest Italian Restaurant in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The restaurant is featured with modern Italian cuisines with freshest, premium ingredients, all exclusive at the restaurant. I have tried the pasta menu during the first visit. This time, we are focusing on Favola's main dishes - the Lava Stone Grills, using finest Australian Black Angus or Wagyu Beef, and Rack of Lamb.

Sundried Tomato Foccaccia

Antipasto Misto
Marinated Vegetables, Beef Bresaola, Fried Sardines with Salsa Dip, Grilled Prawn and Caesar Salad

Cioppino Seafood Soup
Tomato based soup with Prawn, Mussels, Calamari, Scallops and Fish

Scallop and Leek Ravioli

Tomato, Basil and Tabasco Sorbet with Pizza Chips
This innovative and brave combination between sweet, sour and spiciness created a whole new idea to the definition of a dessert! Moreover, the ingredients of this sorbet are very Italian, and pizza immediately came into my mind!

Kantin Bakut @ Kg. Bakut, Miles 16 Jalan Tuaran

Kantin Bakut is a hidden gem at Telipok area, 20km north of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The restaurant located next to Petronas Petrol Station at Kampung Bakut, along Jalan Tuaran.

There are villages / small industrial area which you will definitely pass by everytime heading north to Tuaran or Tamparuli, but never realised got such a popular restaurant - out of no where! Don't mad with me if you are living in Telipok or Tuaran and already frequent this place since years ago, I always stopped by at this petrol station, yet never realise this "kampung style" restaurant and the yummy seafood noodle and tomyam!

It was full house during our visit

Menu are all written on the board

Pick your noodle

There are few "kitchen" here, depends on which types of noodles.
For example, this kitchen in the photo specialised in tomyum only. The kitchen next to it cooks soup noodle, and another one cook "panmee".

The fish slice is so fresh!

The *new* INCH Coffee @ Perdana Park, Tanjung Aru

Coffee enthusiasts and cafe-goers were relieved (I did!) to hear INCH Coffee announced the new location at Perdana Park Tanjung Aru, last October. The specialty coffee shop was forced to move out from Tanjung Lipat Warehouse in August due to land acquisition, after merely one year in operation together with Centre for Arts & Design and other businesses.

Perdana Park is a recreation park at Kota Kinabalu, located just 5min walk from Tanjung Aru First Beach. The park features an artificial lake with musical fountain, jogging path and a row of shops. Perdana Park is a popular place for runners and families with kids, I found it very clean with all facilities are well kept by the park's management, not to mention the ample car parks with just RM1 per entry!

See this post for INCH Coffee's old look at Tanjung Lipat Warehouse.

So what's new at the relaunched INCH Coffee? Perhaps new view and interior, but similar vision/tagline: #bettercoffeekk; same minimalistic bar with a "world-champ" espresso machine - the Nuova Simonelli Aurelia II T3 and a slightly bigger slow bar for pourover coffee. Besides the espresso based coffee (such as Cappuccino, Latte, Vava Latte, Mocha, Coffee Shake...) and pourover black coffee, INCH Coffee has introduced the new caffeine-free beverages: Chai Latte, Babycino (Milk+Caramel) and Iced Red (Chai Tea with Borneo Honey).

Snack-wise, the cafe is offering a few types of cakes and waffle to pair with your coffee. A big shout to the waffle which comes with mixed fruits, ice cream and a drizzle of caramel, drooling! The waffle is so crunchy outside and moist inside to made it one of the best in town!

KoKi Bandung @ Alamesra, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

HALAL | INDONESIAN + LOCAL FOOD | 11AM - 11PM | 088-485298

If you pay enough attention to the name of this restaurant, it is spelled as "KoKi Bandung" and not Koki Bandung. According to the waitress there, "KoKi" was actually taken from the location of this restaurant which is at Kota Kinabalu; and Bandung, a city not unfamilar by fellow Malaysian who love Javanese/Indonesian food.

Some foodies told me KoKi Bandung has one of the best Ayam Penyet ("Punched" Chicken with Rice) in Kota Kinabalu. I believed their sambal (freshly ground chilies, shrimp paste, ginger, garlic etc.) made them outstanding. Pecel Lele (Deep Fried Cat Fish), Tenggiri Penyet ("Punched" Mackerel), soto and other Sundanese, Javanese, Padang and local Sabahan's cooking.

- From The B Side KK: Carrot Cake
The carrot cake is well spiced and complete with roasted nuts, love it.
- From INCH: El-Salvador Himalaya “Supersonic” Natural
The El-Salvador is roasted by The Roast Thing, which is made up of Burbon and Caturra; El-Salvador is a Centre America country neighbouring Honduras and Guatemala. Himalaya is the name of the farm "Finca Himalaya" located at the Apaneca region with 1350m elavation above sea level. According to the roaster, the tasting notes of this coffee are "lemonade, red currants, creamy body".
