The Peak Market @ The Peak Vista, Kota Kinabalu

SERVE NO PORK | WESTERN + JAPANESE FUSION | ALL DAY DINING | 088-253903

I believe there is no other restaurant like The Peak Market in Sabah. This newly opened shop at the Peak Vista serves multiple functions: it is a restaurant, a cooking classroom, a furniture showroom (yes, you are right!), a wine cellar and a grocer! Almost every furniture in the restaurant has a price tag attached, if you like something in the shop (ie. the chair you are sitting), just inform the waitress and pay at the counter! Food-wise, The Peak Market mixes between the western cuisine and the Japanese food in some of the menu, do come and experience yourself!

Ayam Goreng Balado and Ayam Panggang 3 Rasa @ Warung Bandung, Lintas Jaya

HALAL | INDONESIAN CUISINE | LUNCH & DINNER | LINTAS JAYA, KOTA KINABALU

Warung Bandung is an Indonesian restaurant specialised at chicken rice at Lintas Jaya, near Open University Malaysia (OUM) Sabah campus and Ngiu-Kee Department Store. I ever blogged about this restaurant few months ago which I tried the restaurant's signature dish -- Ayam Penyet with Nasi Panggang. Besides Ayam Penyet, they also serve many other types of "Chicken Rice", including Ayam Panggang, Ayam Goreng Kalasan, Ayam Pepes, Ayam Goreng Bandung Opor, Ayam Tiga Rasa and Ayam Goreng Balado. Most of the chicken dishes I have never heard and try before. You have the choice of Ayam Panggang (BBQ Chicken) or Ayam Goreng (Fried Chicken), eat together with white rice, Nasi Panggang (baked rice with some spices) or Nasi Teo (almost the same as Nasi Panggang only the latter has more spices).

Besides chicken rice, Warung Bandung is good at the Soto (Noodle) and Sup Tulang as well!

Laici Bandung (RM5)

Ayam Goreng Balado with Nasi Panggang (RM9.50)

This dish is belongs to the Western Sumatra region. Nice!

Doraemon's Dorayaki @ 100 Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo

HALAL | JAPANESE SNACKS / DESSERTS | VIVA HOME SHOPPING MALL

When people thought of Dorayaki, for sure they will link to Doraemon, unless you belongs to the much younger generation who only watch Pocoyo or Ben Ten! Dorayaki is a kind of Japanese pancake stuffed with red bean, and there are dorayaki which was filled with red bean ice cream too. Dorayaki is formed by two separate words: Dora, means gong (铜锣) and yaki means pan fried or grilled. Dora in Doraemon, however, does not mean "gong"-emon. It is just a pun adapted by this cartoon series created by Fujiko Fujio since year 1969.

Two weeks ago when I visited the Doraemon Secret Gadgets Expo at Viva Home, I did not missed the opportunity to try the Dorayaki. But before I reveal much let's look back to some of my Dorayaki experience, some years ago!

1. The Japanese-made, and the best Dorayaki - Narita International Airport (2010)

2. Red Bean Ice Cream Dorayaki - JiuFen, Taiwan (2012)

3. Homemade Dorayaki, by BigFish (2013)

Dorayaki is available at the Expo's beverage and merchandise area, which is free entrance
RM7 each

Original Guilin Mee Hoon @ Pavilion Bundusan, Penampang

NON-HALAL | NOODLE HOUSE | BREAKFAST & LUNCH | 016-8498700

So far I have only covered 2 restaurants in Pavilion Bundusan -- the Ben's Satay Celup and M&E Teppanyaki & Cafe. There are more to come!

Guilin (桂林) is one of an important city in GuangXi (广西) Region, which is located around the western China quite close to South East Asia. You might heard of Guilin before because of the famous rock formation around the river and AirAsia Malaysia fly direct to Guilin from KL at frequencies of 4 times a week! It is merely 4 hours away, not very far from here!

In term of food, everyone in Guilin is eating Guilin Mee Hoon (rice noodle) for breakfast! Their mee hoon is much thicker than the ordinary mee hoon you can find here in Malaysia! The mee hoon is cooked, then sprinkled with light soy sauce or meat gravy, handful of fried ground nuts, long bean, scallion and few pieces of meat. Sound tasty? Guilin Mee Hoon is now available in Sabah!
