East Bound Cafe @ 88 Marketplace, Kota Kinabalu

SERVE NO PORK | CAFE FOOD | 9AM - 11PM | 088-210579

Previously known as I Love Simple Cafe, this little cozy place renovated and reopened, recently. Located next to The Hairdressers Kitchen & Barbershop (THB) at 88 Marketplace, Kepayan, the new East Bound Cafe bring back childhood's memories - some old school decorations and vintage toy. Pizza is highly recommended here, especially the Margherita - very crisp, original and tasty, made from some simple ingredients such as tomato, herbs and cheese. Available by slice (RM4.80) or whole pizza (RM28.90). Nice!

Kobe Beef @ Flames Steak Restaurant, Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu

BLOGGER'S FOOD REVIEW | Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu

Kobe Beef is the gems among Japanese-produce beef. Indeed, this marble-like premium quality beef is one of the best meat in the world with signature aroma and aftertaste - due to its evenly distributed fat between the lean meat - and therefore a marble-like or snow-like texture. So, what is Kobe Beef?

Quite close, but not you, Australian Wagyu! Yu can't speak Japanese
(Picture taken from

Definitely not you, Friesian!

AHA! Found you! Look at the marble-like texture of the raw meat!
FYI, it is almost impossible to find Kobe Beef in Sabah. All the meat is certified and traceable to the breeder and farmer, meat grading, weight of the meat and the name of the authorized shop at foreign countries.

The chart briefly explained the grading system used by the Japan Meat Grading Association.
FYI, the Kobe Beef introduced by Le Meridien KK scored Fat Marbling Standard of 6 and Meat Quality Score of 5

To qualify as "Kobe Beef", the Tajima-gyu at Hyogo Prefecture must pass many stringent tests / procedure before certified as Kobe Beef. Each cut of Kobe Beef will be registered, traceable to the breeder, farmer, purchaser, grading, weight... etc. Not all beef produced in Kobe / Hyogo Prefecture can be named as Kobe Beef. In fact, only 0.06% of the annual beef consumption in Japanese is Kobe Beef. Due to the high cost involve in the breeding / farming and high demand over supply, Kobe Beef is so expensive!

The Kobe Beef was perfectly cooked to Medium, yummy!
Kobe Beef is famous for the very fine muscle fiber, that's the reason why the meat is so juicy and delicate

Come and try!

Flames Steak Restaurant is located at the Lobby Level of Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Opens daily from 12PM - 2.30PM for lunch, and 6PM - 10PM for dinner. Expect quality food from the grill as well as creatively-crafted desserts and mocktails.

Coffee & Food @ The B Side, Lido Plaza KK

Being minimalist is the design concept used by most modern cafe nowadays. Naked wall, monotone, simple yet functional bar table and furnitures, exposed wires... you name it. In contrasts, you can't resist the buzz of caffeine: the smell of the coffee, the high frequency sound while foaming the milk jar, the beautiful crafted latte art, the bold and wholesome house blend...

Take a look on The B Side monthly issued newsletter:BISING for the cafe's upcoming cultural, arts and lifestyle collaborations with local people / artists.

I like this cafe, and willingly could spend more time in it. Great to see more cafe like this opens in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Until then, The B Side is my choice to hang out for a quick coffee fix or being with friends. Closes on every Monday.

Tam Nak Thai @ Suria Sabah Shopping Mall, Kota Kinabalu

Tam Nak Thai is the oldest Thai restaurant in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The word "Tam Nak" literally means pavilion or the banquet, the atmosphere reminded me (and my stomach) about the dining experience at Bangkok -- almost 90% of the restaurant are covered in wood, including the furniture and wall. The restaurant serves Authentic Thai Food since year 1998, after many successful years they relocated from Api-Api to Suria Sabah Shopping Centre early this year. Maybe this is a new chapter for the restaurant for serving good and authentic Thai food in town. Keep it up!

The restaurant is located at 3rd floor of Suria Sabah, next to Grazie Italian Restaurant

2 things never miss at a Thai restaurant: Tom Yum,and this Pineapple Fried Rice

Longan Ice

Appetizer: Mango Salad (RM16)

Using burning hot charcoal to keep the tom yum hot

Tom Yum Plachon (RM22)
This Tom Yum fish soup is the chef's special dish, and trust me, the tom yum here is pretty good! I requested the tom yum to be less spicy and I am happy with the outcome. The portion was quite big too enough for 3 person.

Green Curry Chicken (RM18)
This was the dish-of-the-day! We all loved green curry especially with the flavourful and tender chicken!

The B Side @ Lido Plaza, Kota Kinabalu

It had been raining all day, and my laundry still dripping wet on the wire. I browsed through the web and saw some beautiful lines. So here is my idea (in contrast with the photo taken on a sunny day):

Into each and every life some rain has got to fall
But too much of that stuff is fallin' into mine
And into each heart some tears gotta fall
And I know that someday that sun is bound to shine

- From 《Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall》

Dedicated to the people in HK and the non-stop rain outside
