Check-In - In-Flight Dining Restaurant @ 88 Marketplace, KK

Check-In In-Flight Dining, or simply Check-In Dining Restaurant at 88 Marketplace Kota Kinabalu, never stop attracting curious diners since the opening last July. This aviation themed restaurant painted in baby blue, sits about 60 pax. Thanks to the well-trained kitchen staffs led by the Head Chef - Jevin, the waiting time during the rush hour is quite reasonable. However do expect a queue in front of the restaurant especially dinner time during the weekends and holiday eve.

Interested to know more about this restaurant? Probably you would like to SEE HERE for more backstage stories captured by me during my first visit to the restaurant prior to official lauch, last month.

(I have a confession to make: I didn't record down what dish is it. DO correct me if its wrong or you know the proper name. Tks tks)

Sabah Tea Garden @ Ranau

Wavy green, highland breeze and steamy hot tea, these are among the images portray by the tea plantation. Maokong (猫空) of Taipei and many places in China, for example, are famous for the tea houses and restaurants which build around the tea plantations. These places often attract loads of tourist who are coming for tea tasting and relaxing at the normally cold climates.

Do you know that there are two black tea plantation in Malaysia? Namely BOH Tea - our nation's largest tea plantation at Cameron Highland, Pahang; and Sabah Tea which is located 20km from Ranau, Sabah.

Sabah Tea owns a hefty 2480 hectares (an average green area of a football field is about 1 hectare) of tea plantations in the Ranau district! However during our visit to the Tea Garden, we only managed to see a small part of the plantation.

The R&D team of Sabah Tea has introduces a few new flavors / tea with added ingredients which have different purposes:

  1. Amazing Agarwood - Weight loss
  2. Classical Cinnamon - Stop Nausea
  3. Glamourous Geranium - Calming
  4. Guardian Ginger - Buang angin
  5. Lovely Lemongrass - Anti-cancerous (TASTED!)
  6. Magnificent Misai Kucing - Lower cholestrol level and blood pressure
  7. Pacifying Pandan - Detoxifying (TASTED!)
  8. Tentalising Tongkat Ali - I am sure you know what does this tongkat do, right? :P

English Tea House and Restaurant, Sandakan

I visited the renowned colonial style English restaurant, perhaps the only one of its kind found in Sabah -- The English Tea House and Restaurant at Sandakan with high expectation. The restaurant opened for business since 2002, providing a fine touch of Afternoon English Tea and other western menu to Sandakan people as well as tourist from England or Australia who are visiting the famous Agnes Keith's House nearby, the Sipilok Orang Utan Rehabs Centre and the World War II Memorial Park, few kilometres away from Sandakan town.

The English Tea House and Restaurant

The restaurant's look from open air seating area below the oak

We ordered the Royal Tea Set which serves two person, only cost at RM38/set. The Afternoon English Tea at the English Tea House is available all day.

Tea for 2
A bit disappointed with the Tea Selections :(

View from the restaurant

Royal Tea Set (RM38)
Consist of 2 pieces of warm scones at the bottom, 6 pieces of bite size savoury sandwiches at the second tier and 6 small pieces of pastries on the top tier.

Red velvet mini cupcake? Chocolate Brownie? Orange Cake?
Interesting ....

6 pieces of sandwiches, 4's with chicken ham, 2's with tomatoes

Scones with Clotted Cream and Strawberry Jam
Clotted cream was NICE! Some places use fresh cream but I always preferred butter cream or this kind of creamy cream. It is made with full cream fresh milk, heated to reduce the water content of the milk to make it thicker -- therefore a full fat cream was formed!

Orange Smoothies (Front, RM10) and Kinabalu Cooler (RM13)

This chilling cocktail really made my day!

English Tea House and Restaurant is very strategic located, oversee the Sandakan Bay at one side while enjoying the British landscape here. No surprise here is one of the popular venue in Sandakan to held a romantic Garden Wedding or company's event.
