Ferdinand's Italian Restaurant @ Sutera Harbour, Kota Kinabalu

Few days ago during BigFish's birthday (can I reveal your age?) I brought her to re-visit this Italian fine dining restaurant again. It was our first visit since many years ago when we just met! Can't blame me for that as this is a fine dining restaurant in Kota Kinabalu who carries many good reviews under their name; just to name a few here: Ferdinand's ranked No.1 among all restaurants in KK (by, listed as one of the Best Restaurant in Malaysia (by the "richman guidebook" - Tatler Malaysia. Only 5 restaurants in KK were shortlisted) and they are definitely one of the best Italian in KK! Ferdinand's is the only fine dining restaurant run by 5-star hotel group - The Sutera Harbour at their Magellan Sutera Resort.

Mr Mas was our wait staff of the evening, he went through with us the menu and we decided to stick to the Ferdinand's Set Menu which is a 5 course meal.

Trio Antipasti:
From left: Insalata Rivista di Pera Parmigiano e Rucola (Pear and Rocket Salad with Parmesan Cheese, Red Onion, Orange, Walnuts, Dried Cranberry and Raspberry Mayonnaise)
Middle: Capesante con Bacon Beef e Pure di Fave e Piselli (Pan-fried Deep Sea Scallop with Beef Bacon, Green Peas & Mashed Broad Bean)
Right: Fegato Grasso d' Oca con Ananas e Porto (Foie Gras with Pineapple and Porto Sauce)

The pairing of scallop with bacon and foie gras was perfect for me! Can I have a second one please?!

Cream di Fungi Profumata al Tartufo
Mushroom Soup Perfumed with Black Truffle

BigFish & I were all satisfied at this point =)

Lemon & Lime Sorbet
This was a short break between the starters and the mains. Sour from lemon & lime not only increased our appetite too but "reset" our tongue too!

Her choice of Main Course: Merluzzo in Crema di Asparagi con Cozze e Patatine Naturali (Pan-fried Cod Fillet with Mussels and Boiled Potatoes on Green Asparagus Cream)
The asparagus cream fit nicely with the Cod Fish, very balanced flavor

My choice of Main Course: Carre di Agnello con Cavolo Rosso in Confit (Oven-roasted Australian Chilled Baby Lamb Rack with Red Cabbage Confit and Grilled Polenta)
The lamb was well seasoned and perfectly roasted, its so tender due to the quality of meat used in this restaurant. No question asked. Polenta was something new to me, its crispy outside and soft inside, like a mashed corn. According to Wikipedia: a polenta is a is cornmeal boiled into a porridge and eaten directly or baked, fried or grilled. It must be authentically appeared on Italian Food that is very new to me!

Deviazioni di Cioccolato:
There are three types of mousse here:
1) White Chocolate Mousse with Caramelized Cream
2) Dark Chocolate Mousse with Rum Cream
3) Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse with Coffee and Orange Sauce

All paired and position to compliment each other, very clever!

My girl BigFish is 1 year old! Congrats my dear!
The birthday cake was a compliment by the Ferdinand's, it was a surprise gift from the restaurant after Mr Mas and his manager, Mr. Rosandy found out its her birthday! I seldom see this kind of hospitality until I dine here! Very impressive! That was the first surprise they made. The second surprise was when our wait staff Mr Mas suddenly took out a Instant Camera and snapped a photo of us, and yes, the photo belonged to us too!
