When people come to Sabah, nobody would like to miss the seafood here. However, there are very limited numbers of Halal Chinese-style-cooking Seafood Restaurant here in KK. Char Siew Noodle @ Restoran Shekinah, Taman Suria Penampang

Char Siew (叉烧), or Char Sao, is the most popular Cantonese-style char-grilled pork with sweet sauce. Char Siew is good with rice or noodle, and it often paired with Siew Yuk (烧肉), or Roasted Pork, Roasted Chicken and Duck. Taste and outlook of Char Siew is a little different from area to area, some people don't really char-grilled, but overly marinated in red food-coloring and pan fried to cook. I preferred the really charred (barbecued) type and better with a little burnt at the side.

This newly opened Char Siew restaurant at Taman Suria Penampang, the Restoran Shekinah (辉煌城烧腊馆) totally meet my expectation for a good Char Siew, better still, the "dried" noodle is served with deep fried pork fat (猪油渣)! I must feel guilty for risking my cholesterol and TG level to the border line, after taking this noodle! Hahaha!!!

Restoran Shekinah is located at Taman Suria Penampang, just behind
Lucky Seafood Restaurant and near Yu Sang Supermarket

A mixed plate of Char Siew and Siew Yuk

Egg and Tofu cooked in Soy Sauce

Yummy KL-style Noodle, loved it!

Also available in soup noodle form

Iced Coffee

Although Restoran Shekinah just opened a few weeks ago, their patrons here are quite a number already. Their food totally impressed me, given the fact that the chefs / restaurant owners came from KL, they bring their recipe and some raw material from KL too! So, for those who are craving for KL-style or Cantonese-style Char Siew (BBQ Pork), do try at Restoran Shekinah here!

FOODIOT'S POINT: 82% (Go for Char Siew, Siew Yuk, dried noodle... skipped roasted duck)

Cafe De Vie @ Lintas Plaza, Kota Kinabalu

If you ask me where is the best Mille Crepe in Malaysia, I would definitely pointing you to Melacca's Nadeje. Currently many cafes in KL has included Mille Crepe in the menu but only a few are made equivalent to Nadeje's quality. You may asked again what is a good Mille Crepe and what is a bad one. Well, try 'em, I am sure you can tell the difference too! The presentation, the sweetness, the cream, the balance of texture when your tongue and teeth touch the crepe... etc. Some Mille Crepe is very hard, not moist enough that you might think it's a layers of popiah skin instead of well-done crepes.

I was told that in KK. there are one or two homemade Mille Crepe here already, but so far the newly opened Cafe De Vie at Lintas Plaza, is the only one making and selling Mille Crepe in a store. BigFish & I tried once in the cafe, then few days ago I ordered a big 1.5kg Mango Mille Crepe which is off-menu.

Swiss Chocolate Velvet Crepe Cake (RM11.90)
The crepe is a little bit too hard, didn't stand when I tried to cut
through using the fork, although generally is OK.

Peach Passion Crepe Cake (RM11.90)
Love this, sweetened peach with perfectly balanced cream in between.

Look at these beautiful layers of crepe, in French, Mille actually means
a thousand. So, Mille Crepe is translated as "a thousand layers of crepe",
of course you are not expecting a thousand layers here, do you?

I bought a Mango Mille Crepe during our company's celebration
of May Birthday Babe. RM120/ 1.5kg. Good value!

The idea was pretty much the same as the Peach's, but the mango they
used is already sweet with a hint of sour, a perfect dessert for
everyone after heavy meal!

BTW they do serve proper western food as well. Go for lunch or dinner!

(Great opportunity to be the pioneer of Mille Crepe in Sabah. Limited street parking, similar issues faced by any other good businesses in Lintas Plaza.)

Eat Love Pizza @ Darling Harbour, Sydney

Darling Harbour not only famous as the best skyline of Sydney, there are so many restaurants and bars around here. We had tried one of them -- the Eat Love Pizza, near IMAX Theater Darling Harbour. When we were there, the temperature suddenly dropped to 8°C (STILL some of us can't help but to buy ourselves gelato at the Gelatissimo), pizzas we ordered were the best supper I ever had during the freezing cold evening. Let's look at some pictures I took during our best time here....

The beautiful Darling Harbour

Garlic Pizza Crust (A$13)- Appetizer

My colleague's Milk Shake

Meat Lover (A$26), look at the sausages, lots of them!!!

Salmon (A$28) - very generous portion of salmon slice

Is this the Peking Duck Pizza? I can't remember....

I found some reviews said this restaurant always booked out during peak hours especially when the harbour was installed with some activities, I think we were lucky!

FOODIOT'S POINT: 88% (Perfect dining environment, very good service, yummy food!)

Pregio by Barista Caffe @ Metro Town, Kota Kinabalu (RELOCATED)

I believed Pregio is the first cafe introducing the concept of Single Origin Coffee in KK. Pregio by Barista Caffe is a brand name imported from Hong Kong, which exist as a coffee school and a cafe by itself. We managed to meet with the owner / coffee specialist Ms. Janice Leong and had a few words with her while appreciate the difference between a Brazilian and an African Highland coffee, it's like a short coffee class for us, for free! Haha!!!

Every types coffee beans has its own characteristic; it could be fruity, sour, bitter, chocolate-like aroma, woody, earthy... generally, all coffee should have these characteristic but at a different percentage. For instant, the most common coffee bean in the world, Robusta is more bitter as compared to another coffee bean, Arabica, which is less sour compared to the former. However, coffee bean grown from different places with different geography, climate and soil tend to produce different kind of these combinations, don't forget the details such as bean roasting technique, grinding (the grounded size) and the coffee-brewing method (espresso? coffee press? syphon?).

Loved their interior

So, what's so special with Single Origin? Well, during our visit Starbucks or Coffee Bean, the cappuccino or espresso we ordered is mostly made from a BLENDS of two or more coffee beans. Meaning that, the coffee merchant already selected the best combination of coffee beans to optimize / balance the taste and aroma and of course, the commercial value of the coffee bean. Each chain cafe should have their signature blend / special roast every time!  For a blend, the characteristic of the coffee is already set by the coffee specialist / merchant and is more friendly to most consumers. On the other hand, coffee lovers prefer to explore their taste buds by tasting a Single Origin, and appreciate the characteristics and the often, inter-related background story of the coffee bean.

Mocha (RM11)

Brazilian Single Origin (RM13)

As promised, its not sour at all!

They have cakes here

Caesar Salad with Roasted Chicken (RM14)

Egg Chicken Ham Pizza (RM13)

Enough for two!

Breads & More @ Grace Point, KK

Lunch hang out & macaroons hunting with BigFish at Grace Point, Kota Kinabalu here, we found this XL-size macaroon at Breads & More, a bakery cafe owned by Pacific Sutera (Sutera Harbour Group). Big varieties of mouth watering desserts, cakes, brownies as well as bring-home German bread and sandwiches for the lunch option, expects 5-stars hotel quality confectioneries at Breads & More here because those people behind the curtain are same!

Everyday they will make different flavors of macaroons, its LIMITED too!

Yum Yum!!!!

Durian (Front) and Strawberry Macaroons (RM5 each)
Their macaroons is slightly bigger (~6cm) than the normal (~4cm) one.

I preferred durian one... although the cookies was a bit lacking of texture
(Probably personal preference, very difficult to describe by wordings!)

Will visit again for a quick lunch =)
