Newspaper Cafe & Bistro @ Jalan Bundusan, Kota Kinabalu


Newspaper Cafe & Bistro is the latest eatery opened along Jalan Bundusan, Kota Kinabalu here.

Located at Grand Industrial Centre (near the famous Wan Wan Kopitiam), the Newspaper Cafe run by a group of young chefs who returned to homeland after spending years working abroad at Singapore. They offers western food such as steak and burger, some casual Japanese food like the hotstone rice, and fusion in between! I liked the interior of this cafe, which offers something different than many restaurants in KK: they hand-drawn the decoration. Probably you managed to find one or two childhood cartoon on the wall!

Newspaper Burger (RM17.90)
Homemade burger with sauted onion, lettuce, tomato served with mix salad
with miso dressing, macaroni cheese and fries. The patty tasted excellent, but
only too greasy maybe due to the addition of corn flour or the beef too fat!

The top bread is stuffed with fried egg, its so eye-catching and creative!

Newspaper Fish & Chips (RM14.90)
Fried fish fillet served with freis and mix salad with miso dressing and
tartar sauce. Their tartar sauce tasted different than others, maybe using
own homemade recipe...

Very nice fish & chips!

Newspaper Cabonara (RM14.90)
Highly recommended if you visit here! Unlike the ordinary white cream
base, which is the American-recipe, this cabonara is egg yolks base
with addition of cream to make it even juicier. Want to know more
about this cabonara? They use turkey ham instead of chicken or sandwich
ham! Turkey ham has better texture and tastier which you can't get
with chicken's.

The owner of this restaurant is also a distributor for air conditioner for the past 10 years. So please bring your jacket along with you as the aircond here is really cold!!!

(Very good environment, plenty of street parking space in the evening, tasty food!)

Porridge Steamboat @ Peach Palace, Blue 7 KK


The famous steamboat restaurant in KK Citymall, Station 13 (小桃苑) opened up another branch at Blue 7 Building, Jalan Penampang here called the Peach Palace (桃苑皇宫), few months ago. Recently, they expanded their business in Brunei, offering similar Cantonese style cooking and steamboat. After all, they are still running about 3 restaurants in Hong Kong and China... Many TVB actor / actress, singers and culinary experts from Hong Kong visited this Station 13, some of them bring with not only cash, but a team of tourists who joined the "makan-makan" trip!

You can get everything you can find from Station 13 in Peach Palace, the only difference between them is: Blue 7 Building offers more spacious and free parking! Steamboat lover shouldn't miss their signature dish such as super-size tiger prawn (as big as a plate!) and porridge steamboat.

Northpole Tofu -- funny name! Its actually frozen tofu, which has
totally different texture as compared to normal tofu. This tofu able to
absorb the soup or porridge which burst when you bite it!



Our Porridge Steamboat Set Dinner comes with 7 types of ingredients
(as shown above) which is enough for 4 pax. RM98+ per set.

Nice! Instead of the ordinary chicken, herbal or tom yum soup,
a porridge steamboat use porridge as the medium to cook the ingredient.

Next visit will try their Cantonese-style cooking and the famous prawn mee soup pot set.
