Black Ball @ Lintas Square, KK

Yet another Taiwanese dessert and bubble milk tea franchise expanded their wings in Sabah, Black Ball quoted in their FB page that they are "one of the biggest dessert chain in Taiwan" though I was not lucky enough to see one during my 7D 6N in Taipei last May. Located next to its Taiwanese companion / competitor ZenQ Dessert, Black Ball is well received especially weekend.

Black Ball is located just next to ZenQ

Santola Bar Cafe @ Kolombong, KK

I can't find the meaning of Santola, its not explained in their FB or website either. Maybe its just a name created by the founder. Santola Bar Cafe is a coffee bar owned by a local coffee planter and manufacturer -- Kopi Cap Kuda. When we said local coffee, the bean is always caramelized while they roasted it. That is, sugar and butter are added to the coffee beans during the roasting process. However, coffee that  I see in Santola are mostly Italian style espresso! In fact, they do provide coffee course too targeting beginner to professional coffee learner. And don't expect they teach how to use kopitiam-style "uncang" or cloth filter to make coffee, they are all using espresso machine!

Santola Bar is a coffee bar, no alcohol here!

Short Black, Long Chat

Inside the coffee bar

I like this part of the cafe

As I mentioned earlier, they do teach how to make coffee

Homemade Yogurt

Nasi Kuning (RM6)

Varieties of cakes and sandwiches

Carrot Cake (RM8) - shouldn't have pre-cut the cake and put in the fridge,
it make the cake dry.

Iced Au Lait

Steamed Mantau with Chicken Curry (not in pic). The curry is nearly tasteless.

Not-as-seen-on-menu cappuccino, no coffee art, which is quite disappointing,
but the coffee itself taste OK.

Santola Bar Cafe is a hidden gem in KK. Located/hide inside the industry area of Kolombong (Sedco Industrial Estate, approximately 20min drive from KK town), Santola occupies the front part of the coffee production plant. You might missed the coffee factory if don't put extra attention!

Fatt Kee Fish Head Noodle (Jin Jin Seafood Restaurant) @ Hilltop, KK

I just mentioned in my previous post about "Ah Ing Fish Head Noodle" my favourite fish head / fish mix noodle in KK. Here is another one: Fatt Kee (发记)at Hilltop, around Luyang.

This pic was taken back in year 2009 but it still looks the same :)

Sorry to make you confuse (if you do) with my blog title, let me explain here: Fatt Kee is a food stall under Jin Jin Seafood Restaurant (few years ago its called Lee Wong Kee Seafood Restaurant). Fatt Kee only opens for breakfast and lunch, then Jin Jin Seafood takes over for dinner.

BigFish & Friends
Fatt Kee provide every parts of a fish, some of them won't appear in our ordinary menu! For example, fish intestine, fish skin, fish lips (yeah, you got a chance to kiss a fish!), fish eye balls and fish eggs! I don't want my breakfast to be too exotic, so normally I will just order Fried Fish Meat, Fish Tofu and Fish Ball with meehun, cooked in tomato soup. This sourly and rich tomato soup taste so good that I would finished the soup first before clearing the meehun!

Kuey Teow Fish Mixed

Meehun with Fried Fish Meat, Fish Ball and Fish Maw

Fried FuPi (Tofu Skin) and WanTon (dumpling). Best to eat with the Thai Chilli Sauce

Price starts from RM8++ , depending on the add-on!

LOCATION: Look for Jin Jin Seafood Restaurant just beside the 6 storey Wisma Prudential at Hilltop, Off Jalan Lintas, Luyang, Kota Kinabalu.

BUSINESS HOUR: Starts around 7am, finish before 2pm.

[Invited] Sneak Preview of the Bomber's Burger @ Gaya Street, KK

Thanks to Monica from Everydayfoodilove for the invitation to EAT FOR FREE at the Sneak Preview of the yet-to-open Bomber's Burger. This is an Old-American themed restaurant & bar opening soon at Gaya Street, Kota Kinabalu, offering "traditional" American menu such as burgers  and hot dogs, mostly barbecued. We enjoyed the Jalepeno Poppers- a deep fried cream cheese-stuffed chilli and their 2-tiers XL-size beef burger!

Free sexy girl t-shirt :P

The main dish

The pluses: caramelized onion & lots of vegetables to reduce the guilty :)

Can I finish this? As lunch?

The bomb!

The boss...

Set to open by the end of Oct 2012... Will come again for a proper food review!

J's Kitchen & Cafe @ Hilltop, KK

Heard that the J's Kitchen & Cafe at Hilltop serves the best Asam Laksa in town, BigFish and I purposely put our diet plan on hold for an evening. Unfortunately, the noodle was sold out. So, lets look at our discovery on the other western food, local dishes and Taiwanese-inspired dessert offered here:

They serve snow flakes (a very fine shaved ice) with lots of toppings

Asam Laksa... but sold out today :(

8 Treasures Snow Flakes (RM12.90), consist of 8 types of ingredients.

Taro-bite and black sesame (a kind of sticky -"kuih-like" dessert made of
yam-flour and grounded black sesame)

Yogurt-ball. Sweet & sour yogurt in a ball shape, burst when you bite it.

Beef Noodle (RM9.80)
The stew beef was too chewy, not as tender as expected. However
the taste was OK, very thick and flavor.

Set Dinner: Lamb Chop with Rice and Vegetable (RM15.90).
Lamb chop was tender with a hint of peppermint sauce.

J's Kitchen & Cafe, facing Jalan Lintas.
